Shape Measurement Basics     Accurately Scan A Thin Object

Step 6 – Scan Bottom

Orient the scanner point down at a 45 degree angle. Set the focus to 466mm in Rangeviewer and use the video window to set the object at 466mm in front of the scanner. Scan the phone every 45 degrees, rotating it on the table between scans. In the case of scanning this phone with the tele lens, two scans are needed in each position because the phone is too long to fit in one shot. Two scan every 45 degrees totals 16 scans on the bottom. Use paired point alignment method to register the first bottom scan to the last side scan. Use paired point alignment method to register each scan to the previous scan.
