Sebaliknya, ia mendefinisikan penghitungan sehingga perbedaan warna yang dihitung dengan pengukur warna menjadi mendekati ambang diskriminasi warna mata manusia pada ruang warna solid Lab CIE (ruang warna L*a*b*).
